File the final CT600 and accounts when you close your company
Taxley files the final CT600 when you close a solvent limited company, with two limits up front: no terminal loss claims, no company in liquidation or administration. Within those, it files the final return with its iXBRL accounts and tax computation for a final period that ends on the day trading stops, and it doesn't apply to strike the company off.
Preparing and previewing is free. You pay one fee for the final return, only when you choose to file.

What can't Taxley do with a final CT600?
Some closing companies are outside what Taxley files today.
- Terminal loss relief. A claim to carry a loss from the last 12 months of trading back three years. Taxley can't file a return that makes one.
- Liquidation or administration. Taxley doesn't file for a company in liquidation, including a members' voluntary liquidation, or in administration.
- Striking off. Taxley doesn't file the DS01 application to strike the company off. You send it to Companies House yourself, once the final return is filed and the tax is paid.
- A note that trading has stopped. Taxley doesn't add one by itself. If your final accounts need it, write it in the accounts' Additional information note, which is printed word for word.
- Older periods. Some earlier accounting periods. Before you pay, Taxley checks whether it can file yours.
- Advice. Taxley is software from Taxley UK LLP, not an accountant or tax agent. It doesn't advise on how to close a company or take money out of it.
How do you file a final CT600 with Taxley?
A final return files like any other, for a period that ends on the day trading stops. GOV.UK says to send HMRC the final accounts and Company Tax Return and pay the Corporation Tax before you apply to strike the company off (GOV.UK: Strike off your company: closing it down).
- Start the return with the final dates. The period starts the day after the last one ended and ends on the day trading stopped.
- Enter the final figures. Income, costs and the balance sheet on the day trading stopped. If the company has plant or machinery, Taxley works out the final capital allowances from the value of what is left when trading stops.
- Check what Taxley builds. The CT600, the tax computation and the final accounts, before you pay. For a period shorter than 12 months, Taxley reduces the small profits rate and marginal relief limits by days.
- Pay and file. Pay the one fee and send the return to HMRC with the company's own Government Gateway login.
- Pay HMRC and apply to close. Pay the Corporation Tax, and collect any repayment, before you apply to strike the company off. Taxley doesn't pay the tax for you.
If the company still earns bank interest after trading stops, a new accounting period starts the next day, and Taxley files that return too. A company with no income at all is usually dormant, and Taxley files a nil return for it if HMRC asks.
When are the final return and its tax due?
The tax is due 9 months and 1 day after the final period ends, and the CT600 is due 12 months after it. Pay the tax and collect any repayment before the company is dissolved: HMRC can't repay a dissolved company. The free Corporation Tax deadline calculator gives both dates for your final period.
What does it cost to file the final CT600 with Taxley?
The final return costs the same as any other: £49.95 with micro-entity accounts or £139 with small-company accounts. A nil return for a dormant period costs £9.50. There's no subscription to cancel when the company closes. Every plan is on the pricing page.
Frequently asked questions
How do I show in Taxley that the company has stopped trading?
Taxley has no separate setting for it: you end the return's period on the day trading stopped. If the company has plant or machinery, answer yes to "Did the company stop trading (or letting) permanently in this period?" in the capital allowances section, and enter the value of what is left in each pool. If the final accounts need a note that trading has stopped, write it in their Additional information note. The steps to strike the company off are in the final CT600 guide.
Can Taxley claim a loss on the final return?
Taxley can carry a trading loss back 12 months, against the previous period's profits. It can't file terminal loss relief, which carries a loss from the last 12 months of trading back three years, so a final return that needs it can't be filed with Taxley.
Is the tax on a short final period worked out differently?
The rates are the same, but the small profits rate and marginal relief limits shrink with the period. A 6-month final period gets about half the usual limits, so a modest profit can pay more than 19%. Taxley applies the shorter limits for you.
Can Taxley file a nil return after trading stops?
Yes, if HMRC sends a notice asking for one. A company with no income after trading stops is normally dormant. One still earning bank interest isn't, so its next return is an ordinary one, and Taxley files that too.
Does Taxley close the company for me?
No. You apply to Companies House with form DS01 yourself, after the final return is filed and the tax is paid. Taxley files the final CT600 and accounts to HMRC; it doesn't file the DS01 or tell HMRC the company has stopped trading.
