Upload iXBRL accounts made elsewhere and file the CT600

Taxley lets you upload iXBRL accounts prepared in other software and files them to HMRC with the CT600, after checking they match the return's company number, period and key figures. Taxley still builds the tax computation from the figures you enter, and it doesn't file uploaded accounts at Companies House.

Preparing and previewing is free. You pay one fee per return, only when you choose to file.

What can't Taxley do with accounts made elsewhere?

Taxley files your uploaded accounts to HMRC only, and it still needs the figures.

  • Companies House. Taxley doesn't file uploaded accounts there, because the copy it would send is built from its own figures. You file your accounts at Companies House yourself.
  • The computation. You upload the accounts only. Taxley builds the tax computation and the CT600 from the figures you enter.
  • Accounts that don't match. If the company number, period, net assets, turnover or profit before tax differ from the return, Taxley won't file until they agree or you remove the upload.
  • Other formats. The file must be iXBRL, as HTML or XHTML, up to 5 MB. Taxley doesn't convert PDF or Word accounts.
  • Older periods. Some earlier accounting periods. Before you pay, Taxley checks whether it can file yours.
  • Advice. Taxley is software from Taxley UK LLP. It checks the file's format and key figures, not whether the accounts are right.

How do you upload iXBRL accounts and file the CT600?

The upload replaces Taxley's own accounts in what goes to HMRC; everything else works as usual. HMRC needs the accounts and the computation in iXBRL with the CT600 (GOV.UK: XBRL guide for UK businesses).

  1. Start the return and enter the figures. Type them in or import a trial balance, so Taxley can work out the tax.
  2. Upload the accounts. On the filing page, open "Already have iXBRL accounts from your accountant? Upload them instead" and choose the file.
  3. Taxley checks the file. It reads the company number, the period, net assets, turnover and profit before tax, compares them with the return, and checks the file's structure and taxonomy.
  4. Pay and file. Taxley sends the CT600, your accounts and its computation to HMRC with the company's own Government Gateway login.
  5. File at Companies House yourself. Your uploaded accounts go there separately.

The free iXBRL accounts checker checks a file before you upload it.

What does it cost to file a CT600 with uploaded accounts?

The same fee as a return with Taxley's own accounts: £49.95 with micro-entity accounts or £139 with small-company accounts. It covers the CT600, the computation and sending your accounts to HMRC. Every plan is on the pricing page.

Frequently asked questions

Do I still need to enter the figures?

Yes. Taxley works out the tax from the figures you enter, or a trial balance you import, and checks the uploaded accounts against them. It doesn't read the whole set of accounts from the file.

Which figures must match the return?

The company number, the accounts period and balance sheet date, net assets, turnover and profit before tax. Taxley lists every mismatch it finds, and the return can't be filed until they agree or you remove the upload.

Are uploaded accounts filed at Companies House?

Not by Taxley: you file them there yourself. Taxley sends uploaded accounts to HMRC only, because the copy it would send Companies House is built from its own figures, not the accounts you uploaded.

Can I remove the upload and use Taxley's accounts?

Yes. Remove the upload on the filing page and Taxley builds the accounts from your figures again. It then files those at Companies House too, once the return is paid and finished.

Can an accountant prepare the accounts and the director file?

Yes. That is what the upload is for: the director enters the figures, uploads the iXBRL accounts the accountant produced and files the CT600 with the company's own Government Gateway login.

Ready to file with your own accounts?

Enter the figures, upload the accounts, and pay only when you file.
