Capital allowances and full expensing worked out on your CT600
Taxley works out capital allowances and full expensing for your CT600 from what the company bought and sold: the annual investment allowance, the main and special rate pools, first-year allowances and the structures and buildings allowance. Long funding leases, freeports and the VAT capital goods scheme still need a figure you work out yourself.
Preparing and previewing is free. You pay one fee per return, only when you choose to file.

Which capital allowances can't Taxley work out?
For these, you enter the allowance you have worked out, and Taxley puts it on the CT600.
- Special regimes. Long funding leases and other leasing rules, freeports and the VAT capital goods scheme. Plant the company hires or leases out to others is worked out: it gets no full expensing or 50% first-year allowance, but can get the annual investment allowance, and the 40% first-year allowance on new main-rate plant bought from 1 January 2026 when everyone it is leased to passes the UK test.
- Connected purchases. An asset bought from someone connected with the company, whose allowances are restricted.
- Shared assets. Assets used by both the trade and a property business.
- Older periods. If the calculator doesn't cover your accounting period, Taxley tells you before you pay, and you enter the allowances yourself.
- A trade that stops part-way through. If the company stops trading on a day other than the last day of the return's period.
- Advice. Taxley is software from Taxley UK LLP, not an accountant or tax agent. It doesn't decide whether a cost is capital or an expense.
How do you enter the company's purchases and sales?
List each item once, and Taxley sorts it into the right allowance. GOV.UK explains which assets qualify and how each allowance works (GOV.UK: Claim capital allowances).
- List what the company bought. The item, its type (such as a van, a car or machinery), the date and the cost, and whether it was new and unused.
- List what it sold. The item and the sale price. Taxley takes it off the pool, which can give a balancing charge.
- Answer the questions. Such as whether the company is in a group that shares one annual investment allowance, and if so, the share given to this company.
- Check the allowances. The annual investment allowance of up to £1,000,000 a year, reduced for a short period; full expensing; the pools and their writing-down allowances; and what carries forward.
- Pay and file. Taxley puts the allowances in the CT600 boxes, deducts them in the computation and sends the return to HMRC.
The free capital allowances calculator shows how an allowance works out before you start a return.
What does it cost to file a CT600 with capital allowances?
Capital allowances don't change the fee: £49.95 with micro-entity accounts or £139 with small-company accounts. The fee also covers filing the accounts at Companies House once the return is paid and finished. Every plan is on the pricing page.
Frequently asked questions
Can Taxley work out the allowance on a van?
Yes. A van isn't a car for capital allowances, so its cost can get the annual investment allowance, or full expensing if it is new and unused. Enter it as a van and Taxley works out the allowance for the period.
What does Taxley do with a company car?
A new zero-emission car gets a 100% first-year allowance. Other cars go into the main or special rate pool by their CO2 emissions. Cars never get the annual investment allowance or full expensing, and Taxley applies those rules for you.
Does Taxley work out balancing charges?
Yes. When the company sells an asset, Taxley takes the sale price, capped at what the asset cost, off the pool, which can give a balancing charge added to the profits. For an asset that had full expensing, Taxley works out the balancing charge from that capped value and the share of the cost that was fully expensed.
How does Taxley handle a group's shared allowance?
Companies in a group, or under common control, share one annual investment allowance. Taxley asks whether the company is in one, and you enter the share of the allowance given to this company.
What if Taxley can't work out an item?
It tells you which item and why. Enter the allowance you have worked out for it yourself, and Taxley puts it in the CT600 boxes and deducts it, so the return can still be filed.
