Send a client approval link before you file their CT600

Taxley emails a client approval link that shows your client the return's key figures, the accounts and the tax computation, and records their approval or decline before you file. It doesn't check who the person giving approval is, and approval is one setting for the whole practice: once it is on, Taxley won't send a client's return to HMRC until the client has agreed to its current figures.

Sending approval requests is free. You pay for a return only when you file it.

What can't Taxley's client approval do?

The link records what the client says; it doesn't prove who they are.

  • Identity. Taxley records the name, role and any comment the person types, and when. It doesn't verify their identity or their authority to act for the company.
  • Every box of the CT600. The client sees the return's key figures, the accounts and the computation, not each box of the form.
  • Some clients only. Approval is one setting for the whole practice. Until an owner or admin switches it on, there are no approval links; once it is on, every client return needs approval.
  • Changed figures. Approval covers the figures it was given for. If they change, send a new request.
  • Payment. The fee or credits are taken at the payment step, before Taxley checks approval when you file.
  • Advice. Taxley is software from Taxley UK LLP. The practice and the client stay responsible for the return.

How do you send a client approval request?

You send the request from the return's filing page, and the client answers through a link. The CT600 declaration says the return is correct and complete, as far as the person signing it knows (GOV.UK: Company Tax Return obligations), so the client sees the figures first.

  1. Switch approval on. An owner or admin turns on client approval in the practice settings.
  2. Send the request. When the return is ready to check, enter the client's name and email address. Taxley emails the link, and you can copy it to send yourself. It works for 14 days.
  3. The client checks the return. They see the accounting period, the profit before tax, the Corporation Tax, any tax on a director's loan, the total to pay HMRC and the declaration name, and can open the accounts and the computation. They don't need a Taxley account.
  4. The client gives approval or declines. They give their name and role, and a reason if they decline, and Taxley emails you the answer.
  5. File the return. Taxley sends the return to HMRC only while the approval matches the current figures.

Where does Taxley record each approval?

The practice's Client approvals page lists every request across all clients. It shows who each one went to, the company and period, when it was sent and where it stands. The return's filing page shows who gave approval, their role and when, or the client's reason for declining. An approval given while signed in as a practice user is marked as not independent.

Once a return has been sent, its receipt page shows when HMRC, and Companies House for the accounts, received and accepted it, and you can download everything that was filed as one ZIP file.

What does client approval cost?

Nothing extra: it comes with the practice account. You pay for each client return when you file it: £49.95 with micro-entity accounts, £139 with small-company accounts or £9.50 for a dormant company's nil return, by card or with prepaid credits. Every plan is on the pricing page.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the approval link work?

14 days. After that, send a new request from the filing page. A new request replaces any earlier one the client hasn't answered.

Does an approval still count after a figure changes?

No. The filing page says the approval no longer matches. Taxley won't send the return to HMRC until you send a fresh request and the client agrees to the new figures, or you record an approval given another way.

Can I record an approval the client gave outside Taxley?

Yes. A practice owner or admin can record approval given another way, such as by phone or email, with a note of how the client gave it. Taxley keeps the note with the return.

Does sending an approval request use a credit?

No. Sending or resending a request costs nothing. Credits, or the card fee, are taken at the payment step, which comes before Taxley checks approval when you file.

Can I use approval for some clients only?

No. Client approval is one setting for the whole practice. With it on, every client return needs the client's approval, or an approval you record, before Taxley files it. With it off, there are no approval requests.
